The Origin
A booking failed. The refund never came.
FlyAsterova was founded after a payment failed mid-booking on a Nigerian OTA. The card was charged. The booking did not complete. Customer support took four days to acknowledge the error. The refund arrived three weeks later — by which time the flight had departed and the fare for the rescheduled trip was 60% higher.
This story is not unusual. Across Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and the broader African digital travel market, this scenario plays out thousands of times per week. The infrastructure failed. The platform had no compensation mechanism. The traveller absorbed the cost.
We built FlyAsterova to make this scenario impossible — not rare, not uncommon, not “being worked on.” Impossible. Automatic saga compensation. 60-second refund initiation. WhatsApp confirmation at every state change.
“The African travel industry was not built for African travellers. It was built for Western markets and deployed in Africa without adaptation, accountability, or understanding of the local context.”
— FlyAsterova Founding Thesis, 2024
The Journey
The Problem Becomes Personal
Our founders — frequent travellers between Lagos, London, and Abuja — spend 140 minutes booking a domestic trip, lose money to a failed payment with no automatic refund, and realise the African travel market has never had a platform designed for it.
Research & Validation
Twelve months of interviews with Nigerian frequent business travellers, corporate travel managers, diaspora travellers, and human travel agents. The same problems surface in every conversation: trust, transparency, payment failure, fragmentation.
Architecture & Build
FlyAsterova's ACID saga orchestration engine, OPA compliance layer, and WhatsApp-native concierge are architected and built. The platform is designed Africa-first — not adapted for Africa.
Pre-Launch
Intelligence blog launches. Early access waitlist opens. The first cohort of travellers, corporate accounts, and diaspora users will shape what gets built next.
What We Believe
The principles we won't compromise on.
Reliability is a product feature.
In the African digital travel market, reliability is not a baseline assumption. It is the differentiating product decision. Every architectural choice FlyAsterova makes — the saga compensation engine, the idempotency layer, the WhatsApp-native confirmation — exists because reliability cannot be assumed from the infrastructure.
Transparency is not optional.
Fare opacity is a strategic choice, not a technical necessity. Every platform that displays a ₦285,000 fare that becomes ₦391,400 at checkout made a deliberate decision to hide the real cost. FlyAsterova makes the opposite decision: all-in pricing from the first search result, every time.
Design for the context, not the category.
WhatsApp is the operating system of Nigerian business life. The Naira is volatile. Card payments fail. Diaspora travellers navigate three currencies for one ticket. These are not edge cases to accommodate — they are the defining conditions of the market. FlyAsterova is designed for these conditions, not around them.
Intelligence over information.
The African travel market is not short of data. It is short of analysis. Our Intelligence blog exists because we believe that publishing the real market dynamics — payment failure rates, fare opacity mechanics, intra-Africa structural barriers — is the foundation of a different kind of relationship with travellers.
Intelligence Blog
We publish what the industry won't say about itself.
The FlyAsterova Intelligence blog publishes deep analysis on African travel infrastructure, payment failure rates, fare opacity mechanics, intra-Africa routing barriers, and the technology being built to address them. No promotional content. No affiliate deals. No sponsored posts.
